Syukuro Manabe delivered his Nobel Prize lecture, "Physical modelling of Earth’s climate," on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Professor Thors Hans Hansson introduced him.

Manabe shared the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics with Klaus Hasselmann. Their work was recognized for "physical modelling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming."

The prize, awarded for "groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex systems," also saw Giorgio Parisi receive the other half for his discoveries on disorder and fluctuations in physical systems.

Nature-based solutions (NbS) offer multiple benefits for business, nature, and people, yet their adoption by companies to meet climate goals and mitigate risks remains limited. Increased corporate engagement across value chains is crucial for achieving a net-zero, nature-positive world.

CISL acknowledges the challenges companies face in adopting NbS, particularly in quantifying benefits for initial projects like regenerative agriculture. To address this, CISL, with support from the We Mean Business Coalition, launched a diagnostic tool in March 2022 to help unlock NbS investments within value chains.

An upcoming webinar, part of CISL’s project to support business to #GetNBSready, will explore progress on nature-positive ambitions, discuss implementation challenges, and demonstrate how this tool can assist companies.

NASA reported that Earth's average surface temperature in 2022 tied with 2015 as the fifth warmest on record, continuing the planet's long-term warming trend.

Global temperatures were 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (0.89 degrees Celsius) above the 1951-1980 baseline average, according to scientists from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

Rebecca Solnit, co-editor of *Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility*, highlights new narratives emerging from science, Indigenous leadership, and organizing. These stories offer grounds for hope, envisioning an age of abundance rather than austerity.

Solnit, a renowned author of over 20 books including *Hope in the Dark*, is an influential writer and activist. She regularly contributes to The Guardian and launched the Not Too Late project.
